Unknown over Las Vegas/Summerlin, NV
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
We looked up over the western edge of the las vegas valley - above Bishop Gorman Highschool area - and saw what appeared to be a giant flood light in the sky - almost thought it was from a search and rescue helicopter but the light didn't move or flicker at all - it was SO BRIGHT. It illuminated approximately 100 feet of airspace in a fan shape but could not see it lighting up the ground at all. The object/light very slowly made its way over the western mountains and then we could tell it was still on, because the mountains become backlight in the dark of night. U. S. Navy missile launch. PD
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #123645). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.
Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
