Flash over KS

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

I'm a pilot and was flying from Denver to Atlanta on September 17, 2015. It was around 22:30, when I saw a very bright light illuminate below or altitude. It seemed to be about 50 miles east of our position. The light was extremely bright and started off as a single point of light. After a few seconds the light extended linearly very rapidly and disappeared. To me it appeared very low if not on the ground. Similar to an approach lighting system's sequencing flashers but much brighter and much larger. I mentioned it to the other pilot, but he missed it. Shortly after that it happened again, and this time we both saw it. Neither of us had an explanation for what we saw that night. The light was very bright like a large fire ball which turned into a large fire trail maybe the length of a commercial airport runway. It expanded that distance instantaneously.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #122538). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
