The report, as filed
Driving from Ossining, NY, to Amherst, MA, on Taconic State Pkwy North at night on Sunday. Myself and the other individual in the car first saw an incredibly strange brief flash in the sky--like a a bolt of lightening only orange like a flame and not extending from the sky/cloud to the ground but contained in the sky (I have nothing to compare it to because I've never seen anything like it). A bit later on, after passing Red hook, closer to I-90 East, I saw three groups of three white orbs, somewhat faint, floating in the sky (too clear and bright to be confused for stars). After about 3 minutes they just dimmed and faded out but not simultaneously, in succession. Witness elects to remain anonymous; provides little contact information. PD

I was driving south on the road at not a fast speed. A metallic silver sphere that was reflective appeared at about a 75 degree angle and was clear enough to see detail but I could not estimate the distance in the sky though had a clear visibility and could see enough detail to see that only the top half of the sphere was showing, there seemed to be no bottom half but it seemed like the top of something and I could only see the top which seemed like a bubble with possibly a window because the silver metallic material was different that the front what seemed like window. The silver was reflective and it was a completely clear day with very blue sky and no clouds whatsoever. It was visible clearly for about 5 seconds and I continuously was looking at it and without moving it disappeared completely taken over by the blue sky as if it was never there. The object was completely stationary and did not move.

I held my thumb up to it and it was larger that my thumb nail at aprox. Cloud level moved much faster than a plane across the sky. I was on the tele phone with a friend when I witnessed the object. No sound was emitted from object.

As I went for a short walk at dusk, I saw an orangish redish fireball move from one side of the sky to the other, in a straight line, not too high and lower than an airplane. It started out dim and flickering a little, and then grew brighter and brighter as I stared at it, until it was a bright fireball. I thought it might be a floating paper lantern, but the light got too bright, and perfectly round, and it was moving too fast and too straight. There were no sounds. As soon as I realized what it was, I ran back to the apartment to get my boyfriend and his daughter. Since he had already seen one with me before, only his daughter came out with me. She saw it with me in the other side of the sky, through the trees, where it had been heading, and now a little lighter orange and flickering a bit again. And then it disappeared. I ran up ahead to see if it continued on towards the horizon, but it was totally gone, just like our first sighting a few weeks ago in Cassidaga, NY, on or about July 27th (unreported).

Looking outside my patio window, I noticed an orange reflection through the trees in our back lawn. I thought it was strange but figured it was someone using a light to fish in the pond beyond the trees, so I disregarded it. About a couple of minutes later my daughter came in the house from work and seemed excited about something. She said "dad, you have to come outside and see this." I asked her what she saw. She said, "there's something in the sky, and I don't know what it is." I went out and we moved across the lawn to where we could see above the trees. We observed 4 orange V-shaped objects in the sky moving NNW at a slow speed in a irregular formation. The fourth object seemed to be trailing the other three. At first I thought they may be helicopters, but there were no navigational lights on them. They were moving too slow for any aircraft I'd be familiar with, jet, prop, or rotor wing. They didn't change direction. We watched them until they disappeared. As a retired military officer, I'm very familiar with aircraft, both civilian and military. They were about 45 degrees from the horizon. Not knowing the altitude, it would be a difficult guess as to how large they were. I would estimate that they would be as large as a private jet. I would estimate speed of about 70-85 mph. The sky was clear, no clouds, no haze.
