As reported

Fireball over Iola, IL

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

On Friday, May 9, 2015, shortly after 12:00 noon my daughter & I saw in the sky a very bright, pink-ish, orangey ‘thing’. Although it was in broad daylight, the object was very bright - slightly brighter than the northern star. It moved at a pace that a far off jet might move – slowly, but detectable. After viewing for probably 30 seconds, it seemed to ‘throw off’ a couple of sparks, then disappeared. We managed to get 2 pictures before it disappeared.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #118925). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
