Cylinder over Mountain View, CO

My mother and I were driving west on 44th when what appeared to be a low flying plane caught my mother's attention and she immediately told me to look. I was able to watch it move at what appeared to be a 'gliding' descent in an area that has no airport. It was cylindrical in shape with a funky stabilizer tail. The tail of the object is best described as a vertical stabilizer without the horizontal. I watched it for approximately 1.5-2 seconds when with astonishment it comes to a complete stop and hovers for 3 seconds(?). I immediately reported to my mother who was driving that it stopped in the air. As soon as I said that, the object in question began to ascend upwards into the sky for probably 2 seconds and stopped. It slowly moved forward and the next moment it was a dot in the near distance(probably over Boulder, Colorado). The near distance is probably 25-30 miles at least. Or it disappeared in completeness and my eyes missed it? My mother and I are baffled to say the least.
