The report, as filed
Black chevron or V shape hovering in front of dense cloud cover above air base. V stood out very clearly. Did not move in any obvious direction. Then would roll slightly to one side and round ball or oval shape prominent at the base of the V. Color would turn to dark gun metal grey once rolled to side. No lights or sounds observed. Jets flying on training loop were much lower so was quite high up. Does not match an drones found on internet so far.

Langley AFB, Virginia. 2:30 p.m. Witness: USAF Capt D.G. Moore, of military air traffic control system. One undescribed object flew at an estimated 2,600 m.p.h., below 5,000' altitude, toward the air base for about 2 minutes.
