Le dimanche 3 août 2014 à 1h du matin, une personne est effrayée de voir par la fenêtre le passage silencieux dans le ciel d'une boule de feu. Sa trajectoire est rectiligne. L'observation du phénomène est tès courte. Aucun autre témoignage ne sera recueilli. L'observation durant une minute d'une boule de feu s'éloignant lentement dans le ciel, une nuit de week-end, fait penser à une lanterne thaï probablement lâchée à l'issue d'une fête. Dans ce cas-ci, la proximité d'une salle où se fêtait un mariage rend cette hypothèse hautement probable. Le témoin voit l'objet s'envoler en direction de Saint-Etienne de Crossey, vers le Nord Est. Une vérification météo sur les stations météo de Grenoble-Le-Versoud et Grenoble-Saint-Geoirs indique un vent faible très variable, donc indéterminable dans cette zone de vallée. Malgré cette hypothèse de lanterne thaï tout à fait plausible, le GEIPAN, par manque de recoupements, classe ce cas "C" : pas d'autre témoin, vent local indéterminé.
