Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

I live near an airport and like to watch the planes coming in and going out at night while letting my dogs out. Tonight I watched a plane ascend. There was a solid white orb that appeared a distance away from the air plane. Within just a few seconds, the orb changed directions and began following the plane at a high rate of speed. Once the orb got closer to the plane, it slowed down and kept a safe distance but continued to follow the plane until I could no longer see either.

A single high altitude fast moving circular light flew from south to north. I didn't see any flashing lights to indicate that it was a traditional aircraft.

It was about 100-120 feet away. It was about the size of a mini-van. It was an oblong light. It was not shining, but rather glowing.
