Le 19 aout 2013 vers 23h un témoin observe une étoile semblant d'abord entrer dans l'atmosphère avant de stopper, éclairer le ciel puis partir à l'opposé de sa première trajectoire. Compte tenu des éléments objectifs recueillis (voir le compte rendu d'enquête), à savoir : - la luminosité exceptionnelle. - la couleur identique à celle d’un satellite. - la visibilité depuis la position du témoin. - l'horaire de visibilité concordant avec celui de la présence du satellite Iridium 49, nous pouvons conclure que l’observation faite par le témoin est celle du flash Iridium produit par le satellite «Iridium 49». Ce phénomène est provoqué par la réflexion du soleil sur l'antenne du satellite particulièrement grande. L'éclat est tellement brillant qu'il est même visible en plein jour. Ce cas est à classer en « A » comme observation du flash d’un satellite Iridium. [GEIPAN classification A — Flash iridium]
