Un témoin, astronome amateur habitant à proximité de la base aérienne d'Istres et rompu aux observations d'avions très divers, observe le 7 aout 2012 à 22h25 le passage d'une lumière puissante gardant un cap constant et une altitude estimée entre 1000 et 2000 mètres. Le phénomène, venant du Sud-Ouest passe au Nord-Est en 5 minutes environ puis disparaît. La description du témoin et l'heure de passage sont tout à fait conformes à l'observation d'un passage de la station spatiale internationale (ISS) : voir le relevé Calsky.
