What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

Looking south at Venus in the night sky, noticed a bright sphere rapidly rising from the horizon, then quickly disappearing as it gets close in the sky to Venus. It reappeared again about 25 min later in the west as a bright flash, and as soon as it lit up it vanished. It appeared to be making a 90 degree when it lit up making almost like an ell shape trail. The object was as bright as Venus in the night sky. Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information. PD

The pattern stayed in the same spot for 5 minutes, but disappeared shortly after. We weren't able to get a picture of it, but we believe it was an unidentified flying object.
