Le jeudi 21 avril 2011 plusieurs personnes observent le passage silencieux par vague de phénomènes lumineux orangés dans le ciel. Les photos transmises sont semblables à celles de nombreux autres cas ayant abouti à des observations de lanternes chinoises. Les vents tournants présents ce soir-là peuvent expliquer la trajectoire évoquée par le témoin. Même si aucun témoignage formel ne vient corroborer un lâcher de lanternes, le Geipan retient cette hypothèse comme hautement probable. [GEIPAN classification B — Lanterne thai]
