Le 8 avril 1985 plusieurs témoins aperçoivent un objet en forme d'ogive, de contour irrégulier et rouge vermillon tombant à pic derrière une montagne. Craignant qu'il ne s'agisse d'un aéronef en difficulté, la gendarmerie est immédiatement informée de cette observation et peut constater également le phénomène. L'enquète démontrera qu'il s'agit d'une fusée de détresse marine périmée lancée sans intension particulière par un habitant d'un hameau voisin.
