Le 26 septembre 1983 plusieurs personnes observent entre 5h 30 et 6h 30 un objet très lumineux dans le ciel ressemblant à l'œil nu à une étoile. Cet objet se déplace lentement et l'observation aux jumelles permet de voir, d'après les témoins, une couronne jaune entourant un cratère de couleur gris clair. Un examen de la carte du ciel au moment de l'observation montre la présence de Vénus à l'endroit indiqué par le témoin avec un déplacement strictement conforme à son estimation entre 5h30 et 6h30.
