Le 30 août 1979 un cultivateur se rend dans un champ de seigle et aperçoit un rond brûlé de 10,50 mètres de diamètre. Il remarque que l'herbe est plus verte à l'intérieur du cercle que dans la prairie avoisinante. Aux environs du 20 septembre, ce même témoin découvrira que des champignons du type rosés de prés ont poussé à l'intérieur et extérieur du cercle.
